Organizational Structure

The Sri Lanka Medical Council operates through a structured governance framework comprising a statutory Council, a professional Secretariat, and specialized committees to uphold medical standards across Sri Lanka.

Introduction

Overview

The Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) is a statutory body established under the Medical Ordinance No. 26 of 1927 (Chapter 105). It functions as the apex regulatory authority for medical and dental practitioners in Sri Lanka, operating through a defined governance structure that ensures accountability, transparency, and professional integrity.

The Council's organizational structure comprises three inter-related pillars: the statutory Council which forms the governing body, the Secretariat which handles day-to-day administration, and Standing Committees which provide expert oversight in specialized areas.
